May We Have Our Track Back Please?

On 23rd June, 1913 the Highland Railway Company brought into use its newly doubled line from Clachnaharry to Clunes, a distance of six miles. Sadly this was singled again in the dark days of 1966 (2nd May) and the passing loop which had been left at Lentran was removed on 10th January, 1988 to reduce costs for the introduction of RETB on 21st August, 1988.

With the significant increase in passenger traffic seen on the line in the last fifteen years, the resultant long section of 13 miles from Inverness to Muir of Ord (which takes trains about 20 minutes to clear) has become an impediment to the robust operation of the line. FoFNL would like to see the double track reinstated from either Clachnaharry or Bunchrew all the way to Clunes with a high-speed switch provided at Clunes back on to the single track.
