Annual General Meeting And Conference
Just to remind you that we shall gather at the Conon Bridge Hotel on Saturday, 31st May, with the proceedings starting at 11.30 and finishing in time for those travelling to Inverness and beyond to catch the 16.42 train. The venue is about a ten-minute walk from Conon Bridge station. Follow-ing information that came to light after last year's Annual General Meeting, this year you will only be able to vote at the AGM with your membership card. There will be a lunch available and we will let you know the cost of this when the formal Notice is dispatched with Far North Express 62.
At this year's AGM, there will be three officers' posts to be filled. Firstly, as you already know, I shall be relinquishing the post of Convener. Secondly, Gavin Sinclair will not be offering himself for re-election as Secretary. So far, we have received notice that there are members who are willing to be pro-posed and seconded for both of these posts. However, that does not stop anyone else from standing. Thirdly, we are still without an Editor for this journal. I am continuing to cover the post but this will cease at the end of May. Although I have made several pleas in the past few months, no volunteers have yet come forward. Duties are not arduous as the printing is carried out professionally and the distribution is done by a committee member who lives in Easter Ross using pre-printed labels supplied by the Membership Secretary. Although I currently write some of the items in FNE, this is optional for the post of Editor. Far North Express is the method by which the committee keeps the membership at large appraised its activities so is very important. The basic requirement is to check contributions for grammar, punctuation and lucidity and collate them. Currently, Microsoft Word is used and the document is converted to a pdf for electronic dispatch to the printer. The new editor would be at liberty to use any system provided that it is compatible with the printer's. Obviously, it is essential that you be connected to the internet. If there is anyone who feels he or she would be willing to take on the post, please contact us via one of the addresses shown on the FoFNL Home page.
