Editor's apology.

Two errors crept into my piece about the alleged 45 minute saving that could be achieved by building the Dornoch Link. I used a distance of 30 miles instead of 40 for the distance of Tain to Golspie and I assessed the direct distance to be 18 miles whereas 15 might be more appropriate.

Trying to be constructive I have re-visited the calculations. Given a typical Tain to Golspie time of 51 minutes at an average speed of 44 mph and applying this average speed to the new line, we achieve a new journey time of 21 minutes including a stop at Dornoch. Hence we can expect a saving of about 30 minutes and not the 45 minutes that is so readily claimed.
